How to absorb textbooks like a sponge
(20 yrs old)
Instead of just reading a textbook from the beginning of a chapter to the end, like a novel, do the following:
- Just flip through the pages.
- Check the questions at the end of the chapter.
- Go through the chapter, looking at the bold words.
- Go through the chapter, reading only the beginning and the final sentence of each paragraph.
After that, go through the chapter normally.
At first, you’re not reading for comprehension, you’re reading the exposure. You’re loading the context into your working memory. Once you’ve done that, comprehension is much faster and easier.
