Avoid Overstudying - Andrej Karpathy
Even way before AI, the technical interview process was completely disengaged from what the job would actually be. The entire process wasn’t really that much better than random, and the amazing talent these companies would miss out on because an HR person didn’t dive deep enough into someone’s capabilities was off the charts.
AI makes the current technical interview process much more irrelevant. The only real way to see if someone’s a good fit is actually see how they work as a part of the team on real tasks in the backlog. The problem before was that the demand was too high for companies to be able to enforce this, but now the market dynamics have shifted and candidates would gladly do this. This is how some of the fastest growing startups in Silicon Valley have been recruting.
The only problem is that it’s not scalable and you still need some sort of practices to arrive at the bunch you decide to trial-hire. And those will still have the same problems they’ve always had.
